Lesson 2.4.5

Trustpilot, directories and review led sourcing

What this costs

Charged per row extracted.

Before you start

A market where customers leave public reviews.

Reviews are the only source that tells you what a company is customers actually think, at scale, in public. That makes them both a sourcing surface and a qualifying signal, and almost nobody uses the second half.

What the reviews tell you that the company will not

  • Volume, which is a proxy for size and for how long they have been operating.
  • Recency, which tells you whether they are still active.
  • Sentiment and the specific complaints, which name the problem you might solve.
  • What they get compared to, which names the competitor they might leave.
  1. 1

Extract the listing, not just the company

Take rating, review count and the date of the most recent review as columns.

  2. 2

Filter on volume and recency before enriching

A profile with four reviews from 2021 is not a live business. Two free filters remove a lot of noise.

  3. 3

Add a custom column that reads the reviews for a theme

One of the best uses of the custom research tool from lesson 2.1.4. Ask specifically whether the recurring complaint matches the problem you solve.

  4. 4

    Score fit and complaint separately

A great fit with no relevant complaint is a nurture row. A weaker fit with the exact complaint you solve is this week is call.
