Lesson 6 of 8

Lesson 2.4.6

Find companies by who they are hiring

What this costs

Charged per row extracted, plus a custom column if you classify the roles.

Before you start

A clear idea of which role implies a need for what you sell.

A job posting is a company announcing what it is about to build, with a date on it. That makes hiring the cleanest timing signal available in public, and unlike most intent data you can read the actual evidence.

Pick the role that implies your need

Building a people list from an intent signal in Kuration
Sourcing on a signal rather than on a firmographic filter. The signal is what puts the row in the list at all.
If you sellThe hire that implies itBecause
Data and prospecting toolingSDR, BDR, growth or revenue operationsThey are building an outbound motion and will need lists
Anything to a new marketA country or regional leadThey are entering a market and buying the stack for it
Compliance or process softwareA compliance, quality or safety managerSomething forced the hire, usually a requirement or an incident
Infrastructure or logistics servicesWarehouse, fleet or site rolesPhysical expansion, which is expensive and planned
  1. 1

    Source the postings

Job search builders return postings. Your rows at this stage are jobs, not companies.

  2. 2

    Group postings to the company

One company with four relevant openings is a much stronger signal than four companies with one each. Group, then count.

  3. 3

    Strip agencies and recruiters

A large share of postings are recruiters advertising on behalf of an unnamed client. They are not your prospect and they pollute every count.

  4. 4

Keep the posting date and URL

Recency is most of the value, and the URL is your evidence when you name the role in an email.

  5. 5

Classify the role rather than matching the title

Use a custom column with a forced output, exactly as in lesson 2.1.4. Titles vary far more than responsibilities.

Left recruiter postings in

What you see
Agencies dominating your top scored accounts
The fix
Strip them at the sourcing stage. It is a filter, not a judgement call.

Matched on job title

What you see
Missed companies using different vocabulary for the same role
The fix
Classify on responsibilities with a custom column.

Kept postings as rows

What you see
The same company four times
The fix
Group to the company and keep the count as a signal column.

1.Your rows start as job postings. What has to happen before scoring?

2.Why strip recruiter and agency postings at the sourcing stage?

Answer all 2, then open Sourcing in other languages and offline markets to tick this lesson off.

This lesson is written and complete. Its screen recording is still to come, and the written walkthrough is designed to stand on its own without one.
